G. B. Zieber and Co., Philadelphia
George B. Zieber was a partner in the Burgess & Zieber firm.
This short-lived company was started and dissolved in 1843. Late in
1843, the Philadelphia based G. B. Zieber & Co. publishing firm was
established. Zieber continued until he dissolved his company in 1848.
An interesting side note is that Zieber helped Isaac
Merritt Singer raise money to build a type-carving machine which was
completed and exhibited in Boston in 1850. It was not well received.
This venture had failed but subsequently Singer, with the financial
help of Zieber and Orson C. Phelps produced an improved sewing machine,
the Singer Sewing machine.
G. B. Zieber & Co. published several three first edition T. S. Arthur authored books.
