John C. Winston Company, Philadelphia
Winston established his company in 1884. Initially it was primarily
a Bible publisher. In 1904 it bought the stock of Henry T. Coates &
Co. and instantly was a publisher of juveniles and fiction reprints. In
the later years Winston was a major textbook publisher. John C Winston
died in 1920.
This company published three T. S. Arthur titles. They are all
reprints. Only Ten Nights in a Bar-Room was published in non-series
form. All of the Arthur books originally had dust jackets.

Ten Nights in a Bar-Room
Ten Nights in a Bar-Room was published by this firm in non-series form
beginning in 1905. It is described as an “illustrated edition”, 12 mos.
and cost 75 cents. This volume has not been seen.
Every Boys Library
This series was first published in 1906 but it was not until 1909 that
Ten Nights in a Bar-Room was part of this series of books for boys.
It is 12 mos.
This book has the Van Ingen bar scene as the frontispiece and two
illustrations.

New Acorn Library
This series, which had as many as 202
volumes, included all three Arthur titles. It was first published in
1905. By 1907 it was no longer being published.
The books of this series included fiction, classics, etc. The volumes
are 12 mos. and cost 50 cents. (A representative cover is shown below.)
New International Library
This series which began in 1905 included all three Arthur titles. It is
a multi authored series consisting of fiction, classics, etc. The books
are blindstamped with a centrally placed logo of a lamp on the front
cover. Several color cloths have been seen. There are no illustrations.
The number of volumes ranged from 156 to 207. 7.75" x 5.25"
