D. Lothrop & Co., Boston
D. Lothrop Publishing Company, Boston
Lothrop published three T. S. Arthur titles.
Fireside Angel (also noted with the author Uncle Herbert) This
book has 22 chapters much of which previously was published in the
Children’s Hour.
Rainy Day at Home (first edition as a title.) This title
consists of eight chapters. Virtually all the content had previously
appeared in various issues of "The Children’s Hour”.
Pete Ogle; or, A Nasty Temper Mastered (first edition as a
title)
All three titles have content that had been published before. Fireside
Angel had been published as a book previously. Lothrop published the
Rainy Day at Home and Pete Ogle in book form for the first time.
Each title was copyrighted by D. Lothrop & Co. in 1869. These
volumes only appeared in Lothrop’s publisher’s series.
These titles were part of several Lothrop series. Each series had a
number of cover formats. Not all the variations are known at the time.
Determining which series a particular book is part of is sometimes very
difficult. Of course, some books note the series name on the cover or
title page. Others give no indication. Without other similar looking
editions or the original labeled box it can be an almost impossible
task figuring out which series a title belongs to. One help can be the
publisher address on the title page. D. Lothrop & Company became D.
Lothrop Company in 1887.
