E. Ferrett & Co., Philadelphia (ca. 1844-1846)

Not much is known about Edmund Ferrett and his publishing house. It appears that the firm was Edmund Ferrett early in 1844 but by February, 1844 it was E. Ferrett & Co. Ferrets became the publisher of The Ladies' Magazine of Literature, Fashion and the Fine Arts in February,1844 (renamed from Miss Leslie’s Magazine) just as T. S. Arthur took over the editorship.

In 1844 Berford & Ferrett published the Lady’s Musical Library. By August 1844 Berford announced the sale of its stock of periodicals, cheap publications, books, etc to E. Ferrett & Co.

This firm was an important Philadelphia music publisher in the 1840's and 1850's. In federal court proceedings in 1844-1845 it is noted that he and Timothy Shay Arthur were partners. Whether this was in the publishing company or some other endeavor is unclear. The firm E. Ferrett & Co. did publish a number of T. S. Arthur first editions and reprints.

In addition, Ferrett wrote a number of mid-1840's articles which have been seen in various periodicals. His Arthur books were published in the 1844-1846 era.

Some Ferrett publications have imprints that notes both New York (237 Broadway) and Philadelphia addresses.
