N. C. Barton, Boston
This Boston publisher, located at 118 Washington Street, only
printed two T. S. Arthur titles. Copies were printed in 1848 and 1849.
Advice to Young Men on Their Duties and Conduct in Life -- Copyright
1847
Advice to Young Ladies on Their Duties and Conduct in Life -- Copyright
1847
Both books are 18 mo., cloth with gilt and cost 56 cents. A nicer
edition with gilt sides and edges cost 88 cents.
This publisher's editions are not the first editions of these very
popular titles. The first editions were published in 1847 by Elias
Howe, another Boston publisher.
Here are both 1848 editions. The Advice to Young Men is the fancier of
the two bindings. The Advice to Young Women is the cheaper cloth
format.
This is the 1849 cheaper format. I have not seen the Advice to Young
Ladies 1849 cover so I do not know if not the same or different as the
“Young Men” cover.
