Alden, Beardsley and Company, Rochester, New York
Alden & Markham was in the publishing business between 1846 and
1848. James M. Alden did some publishing on his namesake imprint
between 1848 and 1850. John E. Beardsley also did some publishing in
the 1848-1849 range as well about 1854-1857 in Rochester and Buffalo.
By 1852 the firm of Alden, Beardsley & co. as well as the Rochester
house of Wanzer, Beardsley & Co. had been established. R. M. Wanzer
had been associated with Alden, Beardsley & Co. Alden, Beardsley
& Co.'s imprint has been noted as late as 1858.
This firm published one T. S. Arthur book: Buds and Blossoms from Our
Own Garden. It was co-authored by F. C. Woodworth. The contents are
identical to those in the "Wreaths of Friendship" published by Baker
& Scribner in 1849 (copyright 1848).
Alden, Beardsley & Co.'s editions were published and copyrighted in
1852. They were co-published with Wanzer, Beardsley & Company, a
Rochester publisher.
The contents include numerous short tales written by either one of the
authors.
This 12 mo. 240 page book has been seen in several formats. Priority
between them has not been established.
