Wheat-Sheaf, Gathered From Our Own Fields
Wheat-Sheaf, Gathered From Our Own Fields was co-authored by F. C.
Woodworth and T. S. Arthur. It consists of a number of short tales
written by one of the authors. This book is an Arthur first edition. It
is 18 mos. and has 288 pages. There are numerous engravings.
A second copy co-published with Hazard and Mitchell, a Philadelphia publisher, has not been seen.
It was released as a "holiday gift book". One reviewer
noted "it is not a book to amuse only, but to instruct, teaching and
illustrating much valuable truth".
It was copyrighted in 1849 (released on December 1, 1849) but the only editions have 1850 title page imprints.
A blind stamped edition without any gilt decoration has been noted.
Later this title was changed to "The String of Pearls, for Boys and Girls" and republished by other firms.
