L. W. Walter Company, Chicago
Lincoln W. Walter was born in Pennsylvania in 1865. He became owner
of the Monarch Book Company in 1893. In 1907 Monarch was succeeded by
the L. W. Walter Company.
This firm published books for the trade in addition to subscription
books, Bibles, albums, etc. This company was in business until at least
1920.
The L. W. Walter Company published one T. S. Arthur book: Ten Nights in
a Bar-Room. The cover and interior is the same as the earlier Porter
and Coates edition from 1882. The Walter edition was published in the 1907-1915 time frame.
It has seven glossy illustrations. The first edition Van Ingen
illustrations are used as the frontispiece (picture of the tavern) and
the picture next to page 32 ("Come father" bar scene).
