D. Rulison, Philadelphia

Duane Rulison was the proprietor of the Quaker City Publishing House. This was mostly a subscription publisher. Imprints of Duane Rulison, D. Rulison, and Quaker City Publishing House have been noted. This firm was active from the mid 1850’s until the late 1870’s

A number of books were co-published with his brother, H.(iram) M. Rulison of the Queen City Publishing House. In the financial panic of 1857 Duane saved his brother Hiram from bankruptcy with financial help.

Rulison was very much like W. A. Leary in that he gave premiums to people who purchased a certain volume of books.

There is evidence that six T. S. Arthur titles, all reprints, were published on the D. Rulison imprint. The year of publication is unknown but the mid-1850’s is most likely. They are 12 mo. and clothbound.

Our Homes: Their Joys, and Cares and Duties

None or these Rulison titles have been seen. They are extremely scarce.
