James B. Millar & Co., New York

This New York publisher was active in 1884 and 1885. Interestingly an advertisement noted that this firm did not sell its books at retail but rather let the bookseller determine the price. Perhaps that explains the short lived history of this firm.

I have no other information about this company.

Two T. S. Arthur book are known to have been published by this company.

Woman's Trials. It was published by Millar in 1885. It is a reprint. It is 216 pages and 7.25" x 5".

The first edition was published by Lippincott, Grambo & Co. in 1851 as the first title in Arthur's Library for the Household. It is unknown whether this company published the other titles in this Arthur series.

Two Wives. Published in 1885 and has the same format as "Woman's Trials".

Of note is that both of these titles were also published in 1885 in John B. Alden's Irving Library.

Although this is quite a coincidence, I have been unable to find a relationship between the two publishing firms. The first editions were published by Lippincott, Grambo & Co.
