T. S. Denison, Chicago

T. S. Denison is one of a number of firms that published the dramatization of Ten Nights in a Bar-Room by William W. Pratt.

Thomas Stewart Denison (1848-1911. a native of Virginia, was an educator in the mid-1870’s and previously had been a farmer and a miner. As early as 1877 he established his publishing firm: T. S. Denison. By 1914 it had incorporated as T. S. Denison & Co.

This company published a number of book titles but appears to have been a very prolific printer of plays. Ten Nights in a Bar-Room is the only T. S. Arthur play it published.

Interestingly there are three different variant plays. That is based on the number of characters listed for male and female performers. The earlier plays note either 12 males with 4 females or 11 males and 5 females. Later plays note 7 males and 4 females

Ten Nights appeared in two Denison publisher's series.
The Star Series (Star Dramas) and the Alta Series.

The Alta Series was published from approximately 1891-1912

The Star Series was also called the “Star Dramas” and was published in the 1880’s and probably into the early 1890's.

It appears that some Ten Nights’ plays were listed in a generic grouping of "Denison's Acting Plays". This was in the late 1880's.
