Carey, Lea and Blanchard, Philadelphia
Lea and Blanchard, Philadelphia

In 1833 Carey, Lea and Blanchard succeeded Carey and Lea. In 1838 it was succeeded by Lea and Blanchard. Lea & Blanchard remained in business until 1850 when it morphed into the first of a number of other successor firms.

Of note is that Carey, Lea and Blanchard in 1836 published first editions of T. S. Arthur's first two books.

A Young Wife's Book; A Manual of Moral, Religious and Domestic Duties. Copyright 1835 but the title page imprint is 1836. It is 288 pages and 18 mo. (3.5" x 5.125").There are known reprints by Lea and Blanchard in 1839, 1840 and 1841.

In 1836 The Young Husband's Book; A Manual of the Duties, Moral, Religious and Domestic, Imposed by the Relations of Married Life was published by Carey, Lea an Blanchard. This book is noted to be by the author of "The Young Wife's Book". There were 1839, 1840, 1841 and 1843 reprints by Lea and Blanchard. It is 288 pages. First edition has the 1836 copyright and title page date.

These titles were reprinted by Lindsay & Blakiston. I have yet to see Arthur listed as the author on either of the earlier books or the reprints- The Young Wife (Husband): A Manual of Moral, Religious and Domestic Duties. The books state on the title page by the author of the other book (Husband or Wife). Numerous references state however that Arthur was the author of both books

These volumes are not be be confused with "The Young Husband, or, Duties of Man in the Marriage Relation" and "The Young Wife, or, Duties of Woman in the Marriage Relation" written by William Andrus Alcott.
