Burgess & Zieber, Philadelphia

The Burgess and Zieber publishing firm was founded in 1843 by George B. Zieber and Wesley F. Burgess. This firm printed three T.S. Arthur first editions. These Arthur stories were published in the American Novelist's Library. This publisher had arranged with Arthur to produce ten different original paperbound Nouvellettes.

Burgess and Zieber dissolved in 1843 so the complete set of this library was never completed.

Bell Martin; or, The Heiress. An American Story of Real Life 1843 32 pages. Double columns. No illustrations.
The American Novelist's Library #1

Fanny Dale: or The First Year after Marriage 1843 (American Novelists Library #2)
This edition also includes the Widow's Children written by T. S. Arthur. No illustrations.

Two Merchants 1843 32 pages - Double columns. No illustrations (American Novelists Library #3)

(Although some references have noted that the first edition of Fanny Dale was published by Berford, this does not appear to be the case. Note the announcement dates of this title from Burgess & Zieber and R. G. Berford)

From the Baltimore Sun March 28, 1843

Berford noted a “new edition” of Fanny Dale in a November 28, 1843 column in a Philadelphia newspaper.
