Brooks, Schinkel & Company, Cleveland, Ohio
This firm printed at least one T. S. Arthur reprint: The Bar-Rooms
at Brantly, or, the Great Hotel Speculation. The cover and the text are
exactly the same as the first edition which was published by Porter and
Coates in 1877. No other Arthur books are known to have been published
by this house.
Interestingly, the Porter and Coates edition of the
"Orange Blossoms" has the same cover format as this Brooks, Schinkel
& Co. book. It is conceivable that this firm also published "Orange
Blossoms".
In 1873 when E. L. Schinkel joined the firm of (Stephen
E.) Brooks & Co. , Brooks, Schinkel and Co. was established. In
1879 Ingham, Clark & Co. purchased the business of Brooks, Schinkel
& Co. making Schinkel a partner in the new publishing house. Thus,
the publication history of this firm is short-lived: 1873-1879. In 1882
Schinkel joined Burrows & Co.
This book was published between 1877 and 1879. The only illustration is the frontispiece. 7.75" x 5.25".
