J. R. Anderson, New York

This firm published the six title Home Stories series by T. S. Arthur. Anderson bought the Sheldon plates for this series in September, 1882. It published books as J. R. Anderson and H. S. Allen in 1883. Between 1883-1885 it also sold books as the Anderson School-Book Company.

The Home Stories have not been seen with either of these latter two publishers’ imprints. Thus it appears that the Arthur books were published in 1882-1883.

In 1885 DeWolfe Fiske and Company made arrangements with the Anderson Book Company to sell Anderson’s entire line of books. This included Rollo’s Tour in Europe. Arthur’s Home Stories, Spectacles for Young Eyes, and Grace Greenwood’s Life of Young Victoria. Other non series books were also part of the deal.

Cloth. Green color cover seen. Gold gilt illustration / decoration and lettering on the cover and the spine. 6.75” x 4.75”. These books were sold as a boxed set for $6.00.
