John B. Alden, New York
Alden's publishing career as John B. Alden & Co. began in
Chicago in 1869 with the quarterly periodical The Bright Side. He also
published the monthly “What Next?" between 1872 and 1874. Of note is
that by 1871 the firm was John B. Alden.
In 1875 John B. Alden moved to New York City and
established the American Book Exchange. His New York publishing began
in 1879. He published with the American Book Exchange imprint as well
as the John B. Alden imprint.
The Irving Library was published weekly beginning in 1883. It was published with the John B. Alden imprint.
Several hundred titles eventually were part of this series. Two T. S. Arthur books were included in this library in 1885.

These volumes were paperbound.
Another Alden series, Popular Classics Series included Ten Nights in a Bar Room. It was paperbound and sold for 10 cents.
All three Arthur titles are reprints. None of these books have been seen.
