Once a Month
This monthly periodical was edited by T. S. Arthur and published by
T. S. Arthur and Sons. This literary periodical was established in
January, 1869 . There were two volumes per year each containing six
monthly issues. In 1869 the individual issues had 96 pages. It is 7.5"
x 5.5". The editors noted that the size of this magazine was chosen
because of its "- neatness and compactness - being easily carried and
pleasant to the hand".
The subscription price was $2.00 per year.
As with Arthur's other periodicals, if a person was able to
procure a number of new subscribers, prizes such as books and pictures
were awarded.
In 1871 only three numbers were published. Thereafter subscribers were sent Arthur's Monthly as a substitute.
This journal contained mostly articles and stories from
foreign authors and publications, mainly English. It should not be
confused with the earlier "Once a Month" magazine published in
Springfield, Mass. by W. J. Holland and Company.
