Eliza Leslie established in Philadelphia Miss Leslie's Magazine: Home Book of Fashion, Literature, and Domestic Economy in January, 1843. Morton M'Michael was the publisher

In February, 1844 Miss Leslie was succeeded by T. S. Arthur who took over the editorship and at the same time E. Ferrett became the publisher of the newly named Ladies' Magazine of Literature, Fashion, and the Fine Arts (Arthur's magazine).

In Volume III January-July, 1845 the new name was Arthur's Ladies' Magazine of Elegant Literature and the Fine Arts (Arthur's magazine). $2.00 per annum

In 1846 it was called Arthur's Magazine of Elegant Literature and Art.

This journal had numerous well known contributors including Arthur. Longfellow, Edgar Allan Poe, Sarah Josephus Hale, and N. P. Willis being among the better known. This journal was merged into Godey's Lady's Book in July, 1846 because of financial issues.
